The Spanish Ministry of Defense has acquired 18 Airbus C295 transport aircraft, which They replace the old models CN235 and C212intended for the training of pilots and parachutists of the Air and Space Force.
The head of the Air Force … at Airbus Defense and Space, Jean-Brice Dumont, stressed that after this acquisition, “the Air and Space Army will operate a fleet of 46 C295s in transport, patrol and maritime surveillance configurations“. This request reaffirms Spain’s commitment to C295, thus strengthening national autonomy and strategic sovereignty, he added.
The new aircraft have a capacity of up to 70 soldiers and 50 paratroopers and are designed to carry out landings on unprepared runways, in addition to facilitating the evacuation of casualties and the launching of heavy loads in complex environments.
According to the delivery schedule, The first group of aircraft will arrive at Matacán Air Base in Salamanca between 2026 and 2028 and the remaining units will be delivered to the Alcantarilla Military Parachute School in Murcia between 2030 and 2032.
The contract includes a complete technical support package with a provision of advanced flight simulators and computer-assisted teaching systems, as well as full fleet maintenance and training center management until December 2032.
