Launched last week, Planta+Rio, the Town Hall’s reforestation program, caused an unprecedented increase in the number of planting requests recorded by Central 1746 in December. During this period alone, 234 new requests were registered, which is a significant milestone considering that throughout last year the service received around a thousand requests. The increase was concentrated precisely after the official launch of the program on December 11.
Between December 4 and 10, Central 1746 had only recorded 19 requests. Between December 11 and 15, this number increased to 215 requests, highlighting the immediate impact of the initiative and the commitment of Rio residents to the expansion of urban vegetation.
The program was launched by the Municipal Department of Environment and Climate, in partnership with the Parques e Jardins Foundation. To date, the neighborhoods with the highest number of requests are Campo Grande, Lins de Vasconcelos, Botafogo, Tijuca and Copacabana.
The Parques e Jardins Foundation indicated that it organizes inspections at the locations indicated by residents. The technical team will assess the viability of the designated areas and, based on this, plan the planting schedule for the new trees.
