“Raise Living Women” takes place in several cities across the country this Sunday 7. The week was marked by brutal cases of violence against women
Demonstrators demonstrate this Sunday afternoon, 7, on Avenida Paulista, in the central region of São Paulo, against femicide. The past few weeks have been marked by the repercussions of brutal cases of violence against women in the state of SP and the country.
The crime of femicide, characterized by Law 13 104/2015, is the murder of women in the context of domestic or gender-based violence.
In the capital of São Paulo, Taynara Santos, 31, had the legs amputated after being crushed and dragged for one kilometer on Marginal Tietê. The victim’s defense – as well as a friend of the attacker – claim that the boy committed the crime intentionally with the aim of killing the woman. Evelyn de Souza Saraiva38 years old, was shot six times by her ex-partner while she was working in the north of São Paulo.
In Rio de Janeiro, two employees of the Federal Center for Technological Education (Cefet) were shot dead by an employee of the educational institution. The crime occurred on November 28.
In Brasilia, the body of Corporal Maria de Lourdes Freire Matos, aged 25, was found charred. The crime is being investigated as femicide, after soldier Kelvin Barros da Silva, 21, confessed to being responsible for the murder.
Record in the city of SP
SSP data indicates that the city of Sao Paulo already recorded in ten months the highest number of feminicides in the historical series, since 2015when the crime was defined in federal law. This number is higher than that recorded every year since 2015. Previously, the highest rate recorded occurred in the twelve months of 2024, with 51 feminicides.
National data
In 2025, Brazil has already recorded more than 1,180 femicides and nearly 3,000 daily calls via Ligue 180, according to the Ministry of Women.
Data from the National Gender Violence Map indicates that on average, approximately four women were murdered per day in 2024 because of sex.
