Understand the case
Actress Fernanda Torres, who competed for the Best Actress Oscar for the film I’m Still Here, has been involved in a controversy. The celebrity recorded an ad for the Havaianas flip-flop brand that was not well received by supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), currently in prison. They accuse the company of “left-wing politicization” and have promised a boycott.

In the video published on the brand’s social networks, Fernanda Torres says she does not want Brazilians to start the year 2026 on the “right foot”. Online, many Bolsonaro supporters said the speech was actually an indirect criticism of conservatism.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t want you to start 2026 off on the right foot. No, it’s nothing against luck, but let’s face it: luck doesn’t depend on you, right? It depends on luck. What I want is for you to start the new year on both feet,” the actress says in the ad.
She continues: “Two feet in the door, two feet on the road, two feet in the jackpot, two feet wherever you want. Go with everything! Body and soul, from head to toe,” adds the daughter of Fernanda Montenegro.
Revolt
On social networks, Bolsonaristas brandished the hashtag #HavaianasNoLixo after the ad had repercussions and promised to boycott the brand. Influencer Thiago Asmar, known as Pilhado, recorded a video criticizing the company and invited his followers to participate in the boycott. After the backlash, Havaianas deleted the video this Sunday (12/21).
“What Havaianas did is bullshit. And if you’re conservative, take your Havaianas and throw them in the trash. The false politicization this brand has done of an ad featuring Fernanda Torres, the left-wing artist, in an upcoming election year is absurd,” he said.
He followed. “This brand is becoming politicized. Don’t use it. If you are conservative, urgently boycott this brand. Say why you are throwing it away, I will never use it again. The politicization is absurd. Look at the false advertising,” deplored the influencer.
