Former President Dilma Roussef will receive compensation of R$400,000 from the Union for moral damage and monthly compensation. The decision of the Federal Regional Court 1st Region refers to the persecutions, arrests and torture suffered by Dilma during the military dictatorship, between 1964 and 1985.
In May this year, the former president was granted a political amnesty by the Amnesty Commission of the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship. Dilma was arrested and tortured in 1970 for belonging to an organization that resisted the military regime of the time.
In addition to the amount of compensation, Dilma was also entitled to financial compensation in the form of monthly payments, to repair losses in her professional and salary career.
According to federal judge João Carlos Mayer Soares, it was clear that the former president had an employment contract when she was removed from office for political reasons, which affected her financial situation and retirement throughout her life.
According to the TRE, “it has been demonstrated that the author suffered repeated and prolonged acts of political persecution during the military regime, including illegal arrests and systematic practices of physical and psychological torture, perpetrated by agents of the State, with permanent repercussions on his physical and psychological integrity, capable of characterizing a serious violation of fundamental rights and giving rise to compensation for moral damage.”
