With the holiday season upon us, the search for safe and tasty options for including pets in family celebrations is growing. One of the new products that is gaining space on the plates — and in the hearts — of owners is canine panettone, an adapted version of the Christmas classic, prepared with light ingredients permitted for healthy dogs.

- Your pet is not a human being: see when luxury care may be harmful to the pet’s health
The recipe is from veterinarian Bárbara Alves, head of the continuing care sector in Plamev, who has prepared a simple step-by-step guide so that owners can offer a special treat to their four-legged companions.
The dough combines oat flour, rice flour, egg, plain unsweetened yogurt, a small amount of honey (for dogs who can eat it), coconut oil and baking powder. The topping can be customized with small pieces of apple, banana, carrot or small strips of minced cooked chicken, all safe and pet-friendly ingredients.
Preparation is quick and practical: after preheating the oven to 180°C, mix the liquid ingredients in a bowl, incorporate the flour, optionally add honey and delicately finish with the yeast. The pieces of fruit or vegetables go in last, before distributing the dough into mini panettone or cupcake molds. Cooking time varies between 20 and 25 minutes, until the surface is lightly browned. It is important to let it cool completely before serving.
According to Bárbara, panettone can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days or frozen for up to 30 days, retaining its flavor and texture. The veterinarian emphasizes that the ideal is to serve in small portions and in moderation. Dogs suffering from diabetes, food allergies or being treated for obesity should avoid consuming it unless otherwise advised by a veterinarian.
The canine version of the traditional panettone is a loving way to include pets in the Christmas atmosphere, guaranteeing safety, practicality and a lot of affection at dinner for families who do not leave their pets outside of the celebrations.
