Made in a pan with butter, ideal for those who want to retain the traditional flavor with less work in the kitchen
Every year the scene repeats itself: pans, hot oil, splashes all over the kitchen and that traditional smoke from fried French toast. For those who love flavor, but want to avoid dirt and excess washing up, a new version has gained space in Rio dinners, pan-fried French toast, made with butter, without immersion in oil and much more practical. The technique makes the preparation lighter in terms of mess, retains the classic flavor and also guarantees a golden crust on the outside and softness on the inside. So learn to do:
Ingredients for No-Fry French Toast
- 1 day-old baguette, French toast or thicker bread
- 1 egg
- 1 cup of milk (240 ml)
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- Zest of 1 orange (optional, Christmas touch)
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence (optional)
- 2 to 3 tablespoons of butter
- 1 cup refined sugar
- 1 tablespoon of cinnamon
Preparation method
1. Mix everything in a bowl
First, in a bowl, mix the egg, milk and sugar (or condensed milk). If you want a change, replace the sugar with condensed milk. Orange zest and vanilla add flavor, but are optional.
The idea is therefore to only use one bowl to make the task easier and reduce washing up.
2. Cut thick slices
Use slices about two fingers wide. In fact, stale bread guarantees better absorption without falling apart.
3. Dip the slices into the mixture
Then quickly wet each slice, just enough to moisten.
4. Brown in a pan with butter
Heat the pan and melt the butter cubes. In this way, brown the slices on both sides over medium heat.
Add butter little by little to maintain a nice color.
5. Finish with sugar and cinnamon
Finally, mix the sugar and cinnamon on a plate and wrap the slices while they are still warm.
