The Speaker of the House, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), became one of the main topics of the birthday party of Lula’s Social Security Minister, Wolney Queiroz (PDT), on Wednesday evening (September 12) in Brasilia.
The celebration took place at the mansion of federal deputy Mário Heringer (PDT-MG), in Lago Sul, an upscale neighborhood of the federal capital, and brought together members of the Lula government and parliamentarians from the left and the Centrão.
Motta was invited to the party, but did not attend. As the event unfolded, he led the plenary vote on “PL Dosimetry,” which reduces the sentences of Jair Bolsonaro and others convicted of the coup plot.
Absent, Motta became one of the main topics of conversation. According to reports, the Speaker of the House has been the target of several criticisms for the stance taken not only on Tuesday, but also in recent weeks.
A few hours before the party, Motta ordered that MP Glauber Braga (PSol-RJ) be forcibly expelled from the presidential chair in plenary. Journalists were evacuated from the scene and the TV Câmara signal was cut.
Before that, the members of the Palácio do Planalto had already complained about the decision of the President of the Chamber to vote on the PL Dosimetry on Tuesday, without first informing the government.
Read exalted
While Motta was criticized, his predecessor at the head of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), was praised by some guests at the celebration of the Minister of Social Security of the Lula government.
According to information in the column, Lira was contacted by parliamentarians and members of the government to ask them to intervene in Motta’s actions. MPs also loudly declared that Lira “was missed”.
The former Speaker of the House, in turn, listened to the calls in silence, avoiding formulating reactions. According to Lira’s allies, the Alagoas MP has distanced himself from Hugo Motta in recent weeks.
Lira had already been exalted in the Planalto
Two weeks ago, Lira had already been greeted by ministers and allies of the Lula government, behind the scenes of the approval ceremony of the project to increase the income tax (IR) exemption margin, in Planalto.
According to some reports, during a conversation in a waiting room before the start of the ceremony, one of Lula’s ministers even joked with Lira, saying that the Alagoas deputy was “missing” at the head of the House.
