The national medical strike begins: the threats have become reality. This Tuesday begins the strike days and will last until next Friday, December 12. Doctors across the country have staged various national and regional strikes in front of ministries, health centers, faculties and even the Ministry of Health.
After the last strikes of June 13 and October 3, doctors are once again focused on rejecting the new draft Framework Statute, after Mónica García did not listen to their demands, among which the development of a standard for the group.
For doctors, the creation of their own framework is of vital importance since, in defense, they have exclusive powers as is the case with goalkeepers.

They completely reject the project García is working on. Among their main demands are obtaining a “more representative” negotiation space or the creation of an A1+ subgroup in the new professional classification model.
Although a rapprochement has taken place in recent weeks between Health and doctors to put an end to the strike, the negotiations have not borne fruit. It should be remembered that the national strike was called by the Confederation of Medical Unions (CESM) and the Andalusian Medical Union (SMA).
These same days, in parallel, other trade union organizations such as those of Madrid (Amyts) or Catalonia (Metges) They called for regional strikes. These two regions also joined the strike on October 3.
“In some cases, these organizers are part of the CESM and in others not, but they all benefit from equal support through the national appeal,” underlines the union organization in a press release.
Furthermore, on this occasion, Each regional union has the freedom to convene the actions it deems most appropriate.. So, some mobilize for four days, others choose two or focus only on one big event.
In this sense, “most of them wish coincide with the December 11 rallies either in health centers, or in front of Government delegations or sub-delegations”, continues the CESM.
Minimum services
These strike days have a particularity: autonomy has doubled the minimum services compared to other calls.
A few communities put them at 50% and even, in an emergency, 100%. This is what Víctor Pedrera, secretary general of CESM, highlighted to this newspaper a few days ago.
“This clearly shows that the administration is concerned about the strike because they know that follow-up will be important. All this, after a long weekend, on dates before Christmas, with the resurgence of the flu,” says Pedrera.
As Pedrera assures, striking is a right. Thus, people who cover minimum services (by obligation) They will be able to show that they support it through a visible badge or sticker to put “teachers on strike in minimum services”.
“The professional can do the scheduled activity or only the care activity which is considered urgent or unpredictable as established by the minimum services. This latter position leaves full responsibility to the doctor to decide what work will be carried out during the minimum day”, declares the Madrid medical union (Amyts) in a press release. It advises “in case of doubt not to take risks”.
Additionally, Amyts emphasizes that scabs are also not allowed. That’s to say, The position of a professional who exercises his right to strike cannot be replaced by another doctor or resident.this would mean a violation of the right to strike.
