Dog dies after touching wire in DF: ‘It could be anyone’

A 7-year-old dog, named Malu, died from an electric shock on Wednesday morning (3/12), at Quadra 606, Conjunto 1, Casa 1, in Samambaia Norte. Teacher Arthur Dias Limas, 28, told… Capitals The animal stepped on a public lighting network cable, and it was activated and exposed on the public road. He was also shocked when he tried to help the dog.

According to the teacher, the problem started when a truck passed along the street and hit a wire, leaving it exposed and uncovered. He and other residents contacted Neoenergia about the incident, but were told there was no danger because the wire had not been energized.

So, Arthur continued his routine and let the dog go for a walk. “Every morning I let her wander in front of the house,” Arthur recalls. “She would only answer with a whistle. She was very polite: I would whistle and she would come running in.”

But that morning, the dog did not respond to the owner’s call. “Yesterday I whistled three times and she didn’t come. When I went to see her, she was around the wires. I tried to catch her, but I ended up getting shocked too,” he said. Malu died at the scene.

The dog was a survivor and was adopted. “We met her during a tragedy when a puppy was run over in our street and she was standing aside watching. I think it was her sister. We felt sorry and adopted our first dog,” he recalls.

Angry, Arthur complains that the accident could have happened to anyone. “Today was my dog, but this is something that could happen, God forbid, even to ourselves,” he said.
