HANOVER (GERMANY), 27 (DPA/EP)
The airspace above the northern German city of Hanover was closed to air traffic overnight last Friday after several drone sightings.
According to an airport spokesperson, the closure lasted from 9:47 p.m. to 9:47 p.m. at 12:16 a.m. local time. Seven planes were affected by the closure and were diverted to other destinations in Germany.
Two flights did not land in Hannover due to the closure and therefore could not take off today, Saturday. These were connections to Frankfurt and Paris, which should have been canceled.
Initially, no official details were provided about the drone sighting. According to a report in the local newspaper “Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung”, a drone was first spotted near a model airfield, about 80 meters high.
An hour later, according to media reports, at least two drones approached the airport. In November, Hannover Airport had to close for 45 minutes due to a drone sighting.
