According to Itamaraty, a former MP can request permission from Brazilian diplomats in the United States to return to the country
Accused before the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and whose mandate was revoked by the Chamber of Deputies, Eduardo Bolsonaro announced that he would provide a stateless passport to continue living in the United States. However, since he has not lost his citizenship, he will not be able to do so.
In an interview with the SBT News channel, the former MP said that the measure will be taken because he will have to return the parliamentarian’s diplomatic passport and will not be able to obtain a new document, by order of the Supreme Court.
According to the UN, stateless people are people whose nationality is not recognized by any country. This did not happen with Eduardo Bolsonaro.
“As soon as I lose my mandate, within 30 or 60 days, I have to return my diplomatic passport. I will be without a Brazilian passport. But I can already say that I am vaccinated. That would not prevent me from making other international trips because I have other ways of doing it or maybe even looking for a stateless passport. Let’s see how that goes,” the former MP said in an interview.
Sources from Itamaraty explained to Stadium that Eduardo Bolsonaro can return to Brazil whenever he wants. To do this, he would need to find a Brazilian consulate or embassy in the United States and request permission to return to Brazil. This authorization is not issued to him to visit other countries.
