The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), informed the deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) on the administrative procedure against him which could lead to the loss of his mandate due to the number of absences.
In March this year, Eduardo Bolsonaro took a 120-day leave of absence and moved to the United States with his family. He alleged political persecution. Since July 20, the end date of the leave, the MP has not attended the sessions.
According to the official document published by Motta on Tuesday (9), the decree of loss of mandate could arise because Eduardo “did not attend, during the current legislative session, the third part of the deliberative sessions of the Chamber of Deputies”. This rule is expressed in paragraph 3 of article 55 of the Constitution.
The notification indicates that the parliamentarian can express his opinion, in writing, within five working days.
In a post on Instagram, the MP Eduardo Bolsonaro criticized the process that could revoke his mandate. He said the process could disrespect the more than 700,000 votes it had by “indicting an innocent parliamentarian.”
Eduardo said he just wasn’t in Brazil because he couldn’t come back. “This would constitute a total blockage of the rest of my parliamentary activities, namely legislative diplomacy,” he said.
In the video he also accuses the minister Flavio Dinoof the Federal Court (STF), for having blocked the parliamentary amendments he had drafted while he was still in office.
The deputy is charged with the STF for the offense of coercion. In September, the son of the former president Jair Bolsonaro was denounced by the Attorney General’s Office (RPG) in the investigation which examined the actions of the parliamentarian with the American authorities to put pressure on the trial which convicted his father for attempted coup d’état.
