The leader of EH Bildu in the Basque Parliament, Pello Otxandiano, said that his party plans to undertake political and legal actions in response to the statements made this Thursday in the Basque Parliament by the president of the PP of Euskadi, Javier de Andrés, in which he declared that “sooner or later”, they will be “exterminated” of Euskadi as a political force”.
After warning that This is not an “anecdote”but rather “a turning point”, he demanded that “the democratic majority” of the Basque Parliament “stand up against the offensive of the reactionary bloc” of Popular and Vox.
During the parliamentary debate to appoint the new Ararteko, Mikel Mancisidor, the popular leader declared that EH Bildu is an “abnormal political force” led by “a torturer” who “played Russian roulette with a kidnapped person”, in reference to Arnaldo Otegi. The Bildu leader expressed his compassion after his remarks and warned against “the political and democratic seriousness” that they involve because “the word extermination has a meaning and a political connotation very concrete story.
“We all know it, and today it is the verb chosen by the president of the PP of Euskadi to designate the second political force in this Parliament. Today the PP has proposed the extermination of the second force, and we believe that this has a political gravity that must be put on the table,” he stressed.
According to him, “The first thing is to be aware of what happened in Parliament today” because “it is unprecedentedly serious in the history” of this Assembly. “We believe that, moreover, this should mark a turning point in the political debate, and as far as this legislature is concerned,” he insisted.
“Dark times”
Pello Otxandiano recalled that during the general policy plenary session, at the beginning of this political year, the Lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, finished his intervention “warning of dark times, led by a reactionary bloc and composed of PP and Vox”.
“And he said that these dark times They can put our identity at risk, our institutions and our self-government. He therefore called for responsibility and alerted the rest of the political forces and Basque society in general to what this entails,” he added.
This is why he proposed that “We must act consistently and accordingly.” “We and I, as spokesperson for the EH Bildu parliamentary group, responded by affirming all our will, all our collaboration, precisely to confront this reactionary bloc, because we share this diagnosis,” he underlined.
Otxandiano warned that “in reality, what is happening today is a shift to the right in all Western democraciesin the European context and also in the Spanish State, an involutionary process in democratic terms”.
“This reactionary bloc has a reactionary program which, among other things, Its objective is indeed our identity, our national rightsetc. This is why this must mark the political debate and we must be aware that we must react to this situation,” he added.
“Qualitative leaps”
For the leader of EH Bildu, from the general policy plenary session last September until today “There was a sequence during which the PP and Vox made qualitative leapss in the political debate.” “We heard a PP advisor propose the illegalization of EH Bildu (in reference to Carlos García). EH Bildu presented a motion in Durango, but here we naturally talk about possible illegalizations,” he said.
He then recalled that the former president of the PP government José María Aznar had declared that he “He’s not going to condemn something his father participated in as the Phalanx’s propaganda chief.in reference to Francoism.
He also stated that “De Andrés himself, in this Parliament, declared that, in one way or another, The Basque Government must apologize for having capitulated at Santoña and having brought about the victory of the rebels and therefore ultimately blaming the Basque people for the defeat of the Republic, the victory of the rebels and, therefore, the subsequent consequences of this historical moment.
“And today we listened to the president of the PP of Euskadi, and I want to highlight the word spoken in this Parliament, ‘extermination’, which means exterminating the second political force. This has a very specific historical political significance and it must mark a turning point. This cannot be an anecdote and the first thing is to measure what happened today in the Basque Parliament,” he stressed.
Pello Otxandiano said that This leads him to propose “an in-depth reflection” that “there can be no equidistance on this subject.” “It is obvious that there is a reactionary bloc made up of the PP and Vox which has a reactionary agenda. And, therefore, if there are democratic majorities here which make this reactionary bloc in this Parliament a minority, then we must be aware of the historical moment and act accordingly, as precisely proposed by the Lehendakari,” he said.
According to him, “this reactionary bloc must collide with a democratic bloc.” “Therefore, our reflection is addressed either to our words, or to our invitation to reflection, to the democratic forces of this Parliament which make this country, in fact, an anomaly. As the president of the Basque PP said today, there is an anomaly. Precisely the anomaly (for the PP) is not EH Bildu, the anomaly is the Basque people, it is Euskal Herria”, he considered.
Otxandian called for “the democratic majority” of the Basque Chamber to “oppose the offensive of the reactionary bloc, to confront “the right-wing movement which is manifesting itself throughout Europe and also in the Spanish State”. The leader of EH Bildu in the Basque Parliament declared, in this sense, that “today, here, this reactionary bloc is a minority in democratic terms, because this is the democratic will of the Basque people”.
“The power of serenity”
It is for this reason that he declared that “the democratic bloc must be clear and strong in serenity”, because it is accompanied by “the democratic will of the Basque people and it is therefore on this confidence and this security that the democratic parliamentary majority must be maintained. »
“This is not an attack on EH Bildu, We want to make this clear. Here there is no need to propose equidistances, here there must be a center, even a democratic center composed of the democratic majority of this Parliament, which opposes this reactionary bloc and, therefore, our invitation is to take seriously the words of Lehendakari during the general policy plenary session and to act accordingly,” he stressed.
In your opinion“this must mark a turning point and the legislative.” “I believe that with these words another phase enters and, therefore, the political debate must be structured precisely around the way in which we do it so that this democratic involution that we are witnessing does not condition the political life of this country. And that this country, by using the democratic majorities it has, can build its future on a democratic question and generate a political debate that meets the social and economic needs of this country,” he stressed.
