
Eight people died and four others were injured fire in a residential building in the Chinese province of Canton (south), local media reported this Wednesday.
The fire broke out on Tuesday evening in a building in the town of Shantou and was turned off in less than an houraccording to local firefighters, cited by the official Xinhua agency.
The burned building, a self-built cement building, had four floors, the flames of which affected approximately 150 square meters.
The four injured are hospitalized, while authorities have opened an investigation to determine the causes of the incident.
This new event is in addition to a series of deadly fires has occurred in recent months in different parts of the country, raising concerns about safety conditions in commercial and residential buildings in China.
Last August, five people lost their lives in a fire in a residential building in Guangxi province, while in April, in two fires in a restaurant in the city of Liaoyang (Liaoning, northeast) and in a retirement home in Hebei province (north), 22 and 20 people died respectively.
