He Limonar Villamartín International School (ELIS Villamartín) celebrated its traditional Christmas concert yesterday at the Zenia Boulevard shopping center, an encounter that brought together families, visitors and members of the educational community in an event marked by talent, diversity and a … particular international accent.
Students from primary school to high school, their musical group ELIS Band and a choir of teachers, forming a total of more than 50 participantsfilled the room with melodies. The repertoire included classic English Christmas carols, more modern pieces and the rendition of the traditional “The Fish in the River”, incorporated as a representation of the Spanish Christmas spirit.
Some of the most anticipated moments of the evening came from three exceptional students. The first wowed the audience with a masterful clarinet solo, while another schoolgirl gave a rendition of Adele’s Skyfall as part of her preparation for a TV competition in the UK. The third student closed this trio of exceptional interpretations with a moving version of the Ave Maria in lyrical style.
A sample of diversity and coexistence
The event brought together students from very diverse backgrounds – Spain, United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, Russia, Ukraine, China and Iran, among others – reflecting the international character of ELIS Villamartín and its commitment to intercultural coexistence.
The ELIS Band, formed within the school’s music school, once again became one of the highlights of the evening. The five members, who take individual instrument lessons and rehearse together weekly, performed Christmas and contemporary pieces playing Spanish guitar, electric guitar, drums and vocals.
The main aim of the concert was to provide a space for artistic expression where students could share their learning, build their confidence in public and project the school’s cultural work into the immediate environment. Through music, the event promoted values such as solidarity, coexistence and joy, in addition to strengthening the bond between the school community and families.
To conclude, students and teachers united their voices and instruments in “Merry Christmas (the war is over)”, a symbolic choice to launch a common desire for more harmony in a world marked by increasing tensions and conflicts.
According to Jon Wayth, director of ELIS Villamartín, “Each year, our Christmas concert reminds us of the wonderful power of music to unite us all. Our students come from all corners of the world and yet, when they come together to sing, their voices merge into a single message of joy, hope and community. “We hope that this respect and harmony reaches all parts of the world.”
