With emotion and enthusiasm. This is how the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration received this Monday, Elma Saiz, her new position as Government spokesperson. A task that he says he assumes, aware of the “responsibility” to give voice to all the Government’s actions and with the aim of addressing especially the young people and women of the country in “difficult times”.
After thanking the work that her predecessor, Pilar Alegría, carried out for two years “of tireless work, clarity and commitment to citizens”, the new spokesperson for the Executive received her witness “with honor” and aware of the challenge that the entire Government represents.. “For me, accountability is not only a major challenge, it is an obligation that we have as public representatives”highlighted in the act of transfer of portfolios in which Alegría ceded to him the position of spokesperson, on the one hand, and on the other hand, his position as head of the Ministry of Education to Milagros Tolón.
Saiz recalled his previous experience as spokesperson in his native community, Navarre, which he now plans to transfer to the Central Executive. His commitment as spokesperson, he assured, will be “to listen, to explain and to show his face”. “These are difficult times and we cannot live by turning our backs on them. I want to reach young people, women, the media of our country. I want to rise to the occasion and show that we are working for and for the social majority of our country”, declared the minister, who also promised to “do everything possible” to “react every day with rigor and truth”.
This Monday was also an “exciting” day for Milagros Toulon, who expressed gratitude for the “trust” that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, placed in her by appointing her Minister of Education. “It is a pride to be part of a project that transforms and modernizes Spain,” he said. After wishing Alegría good luck in the new stage that opens in Aragon, as a socialist candidate in the regional elections on February 8, Tolón committed to continuing her legacy and “guaranteeing equal opportunities based on knowledge, inclusive, free and quality education”.
Alegría says goodbye after more than four years in ministry
Alegría, for his part, took advantage of the beginning of his speech to address his successors. To Milagros, to wish him “all the best” at the head of the Ministry of Education, one of the “most necessary and most capable of transforming our society” portfolios; and Saiz, to remind him of the responsibility of “being the voice of the government”.
The Aragonese candidate thus closed an “important” stage of her life, after four and a half years at the head of a ministry which, as she admitted, she initially took on with “nerves” but with “a lot of enthusiasm”. “We had easy times and more difficult times. I always tried to give the best of myself. If I made any mistakes, I assure you they were never intentional. “I have always tried to live up to my responsibilities and the people we represent, especially our students,” he said.
This Monday, he assured, is a farewell in which several feelings mingle. “On the one hand, the sadness of closing a stage which was happy and deeply enriching. On the other, the joy of returning home. Because if there is something human and necessary, it is to return to the place of departure, to return to his land, to his people”, he concluded, before promising that he will return to Aragon “with the same vocation” which, he assured, has guided him these years: “Continue to contribute to the building a fairer society.
