Businessman Elon Musk is the first person in history to accumulate a fortune of 677 billion US dollars (3.7 trillion reais, in direct conversion), as published by Forbes magazine on Monday (12/15). This amount exceeds the gross domestic product (GDP) of 10 of 12 South American countries – only Brazil and Argentina have a higher GDP.

The company is expected to go public next year, which should further increase Musk’s stake. If the stock market debut is confirmed, the company is expected to target a valuation of up to $1.5 trillion, which could bring Musk’s fortune to more than $1 trillion.
The businessman currently owns 42% of SpaceX and has accumulated record amounts of his own wealth in recent months. In October, he had already been the first in the world to reach a net worth of $500 billion.
