On Sunday, Estudiantes de Río Cuarto drew 1-1 as a guest against Deportivo Madryn in the second leg of the reduced final of the Argentine Primera Division and was promoted to the top tier of Argentine football.
Luis Silba scored for Orenegro 18 minutes into the second half, while Agustín Morales equalized for Córdoba in the 40th minute of the same period, ensuring promotion to the Pro League. Federico Ricalde was sent off for a double yellow card in the 36th minute of the second half, leaving the hosts with ten men.
The team led by Ivan Delfino achieved promotion to the 2026 Pro League due to the result they obtained in the first leg when, at home, they managed to win 2-0 thanks to goals from Tomas Gonzalez and Juan Antonini.
In the first half of the match at the Estadio Abel Sastre in Puerto Madryn, Estudiantes de Río Cuarto produced the clearest of danger chances and were close to scoring first, which meant 3-0 overall and practically defined the series.
However, the local goalkeeper, former Jimnasia Jair Bonin, dressed as a hero and blocked Paraguayan Javier Ferreira’s shots three times to keep the score at zero. In addition, Federico Ricaldi, the local team’s midfielder, threw himself to the ground to block Agustín Fontana’s shot on the goal line.
Luis Silba appeared in the second half with a scissor shot to make it 1-0 and leave the home team one goal away from penalty kicks. However, Madrín received 10 points for the red card against Ricalde, and the visit resulted in a draw with a goal scored by Agustín Morales. In the end, Rio Cuarto’s celebration was marred by incidents in which the local team threw projectiles at the referees’ list.
