December 17, 2025, nails 400 people – mostly migrants – They were evicted from the B9 building in Badalona, occupied since 2023 due to the lack of housing alternatives. The expulsion, carried out by the Mossos d’Esquadra following a judicial decision requested by the PP town hall of Badalona, was carried out without hosting guaranteeleaving many people on the street in the middle of winter. After the eviction, emergency temporary shelter was attempted in a parish in the city, with support from the Red Cross, as a minimal humanitarian response. This solution failed due to pressure from neighborhood protests and lack of institutional support. The result was clear: homeless men, women and youth, and a city incapable of seeing them as brothers.
From the Gospel we clearly denounce the actions of the mayor of Badalona and the institutions which, protected by law, have deliberately abandoned the poor. You cannot invoke order while destroying life. We cannot talk about security when exclusion is manufactured. We cannot govern by stoking fear and singling out foreigners as a problem.
We also denounce a part of society which took to the streets not to welcome, but to expel; not to ensure coexistence, but to protect privileges. This organized rejection, responsible for racism And xenophobia, This is not an opinion: it is a denial of human dignity. “I was a stranger and you did not welcome me” (Mt 25:43) is not a pious motto, it is a verdict.
Jesus does not identify with the power that dislodges, but with the poor person expelled. He does not work with those who criminalize poverty, but with those who suffer it. A Church, institutions and social movements that remain silent in the face of this injustice betray the Gospel and render meaningless the word humanity, fundamental human rights.
We proclaim that no city is fair if it leaves people on the streets, No policy is legitimate if it humiliates, and no society is Christian if it normalizes hatred. Law without compassion is violence. Order without justice is a lie. And the Gospel, today in Badalona de Albiol, judges us all.
