Kepler Interactive and Tokyo-based independent developer Shapefarm have announced Orbitals, a two-player co-op intergalactic adventure set in an all-new retro animated galaxy, coming exclusively to Switch 2 in 2026.
Developed from the ground up to be asymmetrical multiplayer, the game invites players to call a friend and embark on an experience that promises to be unlike any other.
In Orbitals, players will take on the role of Maki and Omura, two inseparable explorers with far more determination than practical experience. Working together, they will brave the dangers of space to save their crumbling space station from the threats of a supernatural cosmic storm. Whether using unique tools to clear their way, piloting their spaceship through dangerous asteroid fields, or simply relaxing and enjoying the lush, cartoon-inspired atmosphere, players will embark on an intergalactic adventure and form new friendships.
Built on Unreal Engine 5, Orbitals takes full advantage of the Switch 2’s hardware to deliver an unforgettable cooperative experience, no matter how you prefer to connect. Whether it’s team-playing with two pairs of Joy-Con 2 controllers on a single Switch 2 for local split-screen co-op, using the system’s GameShare feature to share Orbitals with another local player on a Switch 2 or compatible Switch, or finding matches online with your friends and taking advantage of the Switch 2’s built-in microphone and GameChat for crystal-clear communication, gamers around the world can come together and save the day together as a team inseparable.
Orbitals was made capturing the warmth and style of classic Japanese anime, bringing to life authentic details and a clear respect for the Tokyo-based Shapefarm development team. The studio’s artists and developers have lovingly created an original world, inspired by retro anime from the early 90s, and brought the art to life like never before. Additionally, the developers teamed up with Studio Massket, the animation studio behind hundreds of the most beloved and popular anime, to create handcrafted cutscenes for the game, adding an extra layer of authenticity for fans of Japanese animation. Combined with full Japanese and English voiceovers, Shapefarm aims to pay homage to this art with a playable cooperative adventure that it guarantees fans will fall in love with.
