The arrival of an extratropical cyclone and the formation of a cold front cause heavy rains both in Rio and in the other southeastern states of the country. According to a yellow alert issued by the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), the showers will be accompanied by intense winds, reaching 60 km/h. Maximum temperatures are 33°C for the capital Rio de Janeiro, 30°C for Vitória (ES), 26°C Belo Horizonte (MG) and 24°C for São Paulo.

The storms also affected Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná and Santa Catarina. With precipitation volumes exceeding 100 mm/day and winds exceeding 100 km/h, all three states could also experience hail. Inmet warns of the presence of coastal winds in cities like Florianópolis (SC), Paranaguá (PR) and Rio Grande (RS).
— In the southern region, we have the movement of a low pressure center which reaches the ocean and forms more than one cyclone, creating this tropical storm. The extratropical cyclone favors gusty winds, while the cold front, which is also forming, intensifies rain showers and hailstorms — explains meteorologist Andrea Ramos.
The forecast calls for heavy and rainy weather in the northern and central-western regions of Brazil. The thermometer shows a maximum of 34°C, 30°C and 28°C, respectively in capitals like Manaus (AM), Palmas (TO) and Cuiabá (MT).
In the northeast, low relative humidity will be present in states like Ceará, Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Norte. Temperatures are high in the region and maximums reach 31°C in Fortaleza (CE) and 30°C in Natal (RN) and Recife (PE).

The recommendation of the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) is that the population avoids facing bad weather, observes changes in slope and, if possible, turns off electrical appliances and the general energy supply. The Institute also leaves a series of instructions for residents of areas that could be most affected by the rains. Look:
- Turn off electrical appliances and the general power supply;
- Observe changes in slope;
- Stay in a sheltered area and, in case of gusty winds, do not take shelter under trees, due to the slight risk of falling and electric shock, and do not park vehicles near transmission towers and advertising signs;
- In case of flooding or similar, protect your belongings from water by packing them in plastic bags;
- Obtain more information from Civil Protection (telephone 199) and the firefighters (telephone 193).
