Even though heat and rain are part of the season, the intensity of these phenomena worries experts. According to Dr. Armindo Matheus, medical director of Nova Saúde, the human body reacts sensitively to these climatic extremes.
“The body functions as a balance system. When this balance is disrupted by excessive heat or constant humidity, symptoms can range from mild to severe, especially in more vulnerable people,” he explains.
Extreme heat overloads the body in summer
During heatwaves, the body loses fluids at an accelerated rate, the cardiovascular system is more stressed and the internal temperature tends to increase. This process can lead to dehydration, dizziness, changes in blood pressure, exhaustion, fainting, and worsening of chronic conditions. But often the first signs go unnoticed.
“Frequent headaches, unusual fatigue and darker urine are clear signs that the body is suffering. When a person hydrates and adjusts their routine from the start, they significantly reduce the risk of complications,” emphasizes the doctor.
