Formula 1 will experience a radical change in 2026. The change in the technical regulations will revolutionize the Grand Cirque, bid farewell to the pillars of current affairs and introduce new concepts that you will have to get used to. To better understand these developments, F1 has published a video explaining the new weapons for drivers to fight on the track.
First, the cars themselves will be different. Slightly smaller and thinner2026 cars promise to have less downforce and aerodynamic drag, which could help solve dirty air problems. In addition, the power will be almost 50% electricthe DRS and parts of the old supercharger unit will disappear, highlighting the complicated MGU-H, a device connected to the turbocharger that recovered the thermal energy generated by the exhaust gases. Below is a list of new features you will need to know about next season.
Overtaking mode
“It allows drivers who are less than a second behind the car in front of them to deploy additional power to attempt an overtake. It replaces DRS and facilitates overtaking on track, being a strategic tool that can be used in one go or distributed throughout a lap.”
Fashion Booster
“This is the piloted power delivery tool of the Energy Recovery System (ERS), which can be used offensively or defensively depending on track position. It provides the rider with maximum power from the motor and battery at the touch of a button, regardless of where they are on the circuit.”
Active aerodynamics
Dynamically adjustable angles of the front and rear wing elements in specific high-speed sections, designed for cornering and straight-line modes. It enables strategic adaptability and maximizes the total use of the car’s power through improved grip on the track.
Reload
Drivers can recharge the battery with energy recovered when braking, lifting the throttle at the end of straights and even during corners where only partial power is applied.
