Fabinho Soldado leaves Corinthians amid political attrition at Parque São Jorge

The Corinthians announced, this Tuesday 23, two days after the title of the Copa do Brasil, that Fabinho Soldado left his post as the club’s director of football. According to the note, the decision was taken by mutual agreement. The manager has an offer from Internacional and his stay at Parque São Jorge has been uncertain for some time.

“Corinthians thanks the professional for the services provided, for the commitment and dedication demonstrated during the period in which he performed his duties, wishing him success in his next professional challenges. The Club will continue to work on the restructuring of its Football Department and will inform you in due course of the next steps,” informed the team.

Osmar Stábile, president of Corinthians, had come under pressure from advisers to sack the football director, who had the support of the players. More than once, black and white athletes staged public protests praising the work Soldado was doing internally.

Still on the Maracanã pitch, after Corinthians beat Vasco 2-1 and became quadruple champions of the Copa do Brasil, the current former manager of the black and white team spoke in a farewell tone and expressed his discomfort with the political situation at the club.

“It seems that professionalism is still something that bothers. I think that’s the right word, I think that professionalism still bothers. Fabinho Soldado arrived at Corinthians at the start of Augusto Melo’s controversial government and continued in the role even after the president-elect’s dismissal. Supported by the team, he was always presented by the players as responsible for not letting the political crisis reach the locker room.
