President Lula ordered the PT and the left not to attack the candidacy of Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) at the Planalto Palace.
The core of the PT considers Jair Bolsonaro’s first son to be the best option to run in the 2026 elections. In the duel of refusals, the PT wins over any candidate with the last name Bolsonaro.

Those who know the modus operandi of Bolsonaro and PL president Valdemar Costa Neto say this group is interested in running, even though they know they will lose the competition. Running a candidate with a 62% rejection rate, like Flávio, is considered suicide by any political analyst.
Bolsonarism remains the main pole of opposition to the PT, without opening the way for a third way to occupy this place. And the PL guarantees a voter capable of electing a solid bench of federal deputies, thus guaranteeing billions of dollars in party and electoral funds for the party.

By allowing Flávio to run amok at this point, the government prevents him from dropping out to make way for the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), a more competitive name. Tarcísio will not be a candidate if the senator remains in the race. The calculation is simple: if you leave, you will be attacked by both the PT and the Bolsonaristas — from left to right.
Ciro Gomes (PSDB) was also convinced that the best way is to run for the government of Ceará. If he wins, he will be able to undermine the PT, which has ruled the state for ten years, since 2015. With this, he ended discussions that he could run in Planalto to help take votes from Lula.
