Paraense de Jacunda, who had already won the title of the main category of Brazilian motorsport in 2016, came seventh this Sunday
The gaucho Arthur Leist24 years old, won the last of the 22 stages of the stockcar Pro Seriesthis Sunday, during the Super Final organized at the Autodromo Internacional José Carlos Pace, in Interlagosin São Paulo, but the party was all for the champion Felipe Fragawho received the trophy for the second time in his career after the race.
The Pará de Jacundá, who had already won the title of the main category of Brazilian motorsport in 2016, came seventh this Sunday and put an end once and for all to the controversy that brought him his second expected championship after winning the sprint race, on Saturday, also at Interlagos.
On Saturday, Gaetano Di Mauro, his Eurofarma RC teammate and only contender for the title, despite distant chances, was in the lead until stopping on the ninth lap, 12 minutes from the end, due to accidents and a red flag, but had to restart in 25th position (which he occupied on the eighth lap) after a decision by the race management, practically putting him out of the race – he finished 14th.
Felipe Fraga, in turn, had an impressive campaign throughout the year, with two victories, eight podiums, two poles and four Best Driver of the Race trophies, finishing 17 races among the top ten. This Sunday, he entered the track ready to put an end to the controversy.
“It was incredible, I’m very happy with the title. A lot of people didn’t like the result yesterday, but the combination I needed, arriving 18th, 19th, was very favorable. I will arrive at the position (that I need) so that everyone is calmer”, he commented, this Sunday, before the Super Final.
No sooner said than done. Starting in 12th position, the 30-year-old driver arrived seventh after 50 minutes and two laps, ahead of Di Mauro, in ninth place, and finished with 966 points in the standings, against 809 for his teammate. Leist’s Super Final triumph earned him third place in the rankings, with 753, overtaking Nelsinho Piquet.
Champion in 2023 and 2024, Gabriel Casagrande crossed the checkered flag in second position, while Guilherme Salas completed the podium. The highlight of this Sunday’s race, however, was the experienced Rubens Barrichello, who left the grid in 25th place and finished in fifth place in his farewell to the Full Time team – the 53-year-old driver will race for Scuderia Bandeiras.
