In intense races marked by incidents, Giaffone is fourth and Perdoncini will go Pro; see how the race went.
In a final marked by intense arguments and twists and turns, Felipe Giaffone and Pedro Perdoncini won the Copa Truck titles in the Pro and Elite categories respectively. After a serious accident at the start of race 2 and a fall in several positions, Giaffone still won his fourth title, becoming the first quadruple champion in the category.
ASG Motorsport’s Perdoncini backed up the feat by remaining consistent in both races and avoiding further incidents.
The decisive weekend put 45 points on the line and brought together seven drivers in the fight for the Pro title: Felipe Giaffone (210 points), Raphael Abbate (193), Danilo Dirani (190), Beto Monteiro (177), Leandro Totti (177), Wellington Cirino (168) and André Marques (166).
In Elite, four drivers arrived with mathematical chances: Pedro Perdoncini (229 points), Arthur Scherer (222), Nicolas Giaffone (210) and Leo Rufino (196).
Find out how the start of race 1 went:
In the first round, the Pro title could already be won if Felipe Giaffone finished in a favorable position. However, the driver started fifth and lost performance throughout the race, delaying the finish.
In Elite, vice-leader Arthur Scherer received a drive-through in the opening laps for speeding on the radar, dropping to sixth position. However, he regained ground after the entry of the security truck.
The other contender for the Elite title, Nick Giaffone, received a 20-second penalty for early departure, thus jeopardizing his chances. Race 1 was also marked by seven retirements in both categories.
The start of the second race was marked by a serious accident between the contenders for the Pro title, Raphael Abbate and Felipe Giaffone. Abbate’s truck was severely damaged, with a direct impact on the driver’s side and displacement of the cab. The driver nevertheless managed to bring the vehicle back to the pits and out safely, without the need to immediately activate the Safety Truck.
In the tumult, Leandro Totti momentarily took the lead, but received a drive-through for speeding in the pits. He still had a chance to win the title, but because of the yellow flag he could not comply with the penalty and added 20 seconds to his time, alongside Bia Figueiredo and Diogo Moscato.
The Safety Truck was only activated 8 minutes from the end of the race, after an oil leak caused by Rodrigo Taborda’s truck, involved in an incident with three other drivers.
With a green flag finish, Paulo Salustiano won the Pro, becoming the biggest winner in the category at Interlagos. In Elite, Scherer took the victory, confirming his place as vice-champion and guaranteeing his passage to the main category.
