Lola becomes emotional when she comments on the killing of women in Brazil

Violence against women was the topic of a speech delivered by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) on Tuesday afternoon (2/12). In the city of Ipojuca, in Pernambuco, the president participated in an event linked to the oil agenda and used the opportunity to comment on recent cases of violence. Lula became emotional during his speech and advocated for harsher penalties for perpetrators of this type of crime.

“What shame does a bastard like this deserve? Even death is kind (…). What we need is a lesson in character, in dignity, in education, in respect for our comrades, for women. Without them, we would not exist,” he said.

According to the president, the First Lady of Brazil, Ganga Lula da Silva, asked him to combat violence against women “more strongly.” He also noted that Ganga was crying watching media reports on the issue recently.

“Today, on the plane, Ganga asked me: Lola, take responsibility for a tougher fight against men’s violence against women,” the president said, receiving warm applause from those attending the ceremony.

Lula cited cases such as the former basketball player who punched his then-girlfriend 60 times, and the man who used a car to drag his ex-girlfriend alongside Marginal Tite, in Sao Paulo. The woman’s legs were amputated and she remains in serious condition.

“Each of us, men, needs to be each other’s teacher. Each of us must teach our children, our comrades. If you are not on good terms with your life partner, please be big, don’t hit her, separate yourself from her. If she doesn’t love you, she is not obligated to stay with you. Let her mind her own business, don’t imprison her, don’t be mean, don’t be ignorant,” the president stressed.
