Summary
Fernanda Torres sparked controversy when she starred in a year-end ad for Havaianas, with right-wing critics interpreting the text as a political stance, leading to threats to boycott the brand.
The Havaianas brand’s end-of-year campaign, featuring actress Fernanda Torres, has become the target of controversy after displeasing right-wing politicians and supporters. The brand became the new “villain” of the group and began to receive criticism, even threats of boycott, on social networks. However, Fernanda’s text in the advert makes no direct mention of politics, and this aspect was implied.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t want you to start 2026 off on the right foot,” she begins in the ad. “No, there’s nothing against luck, but let’s face it: luck doesn’t depend on you, does it? It depends on luck,” he continues.
“What I want is for you to start the new year with both feet: two feet in the door, two feet in the road, two feet in the jackfruit, two feet wherever you want. Go with everything, body and soul, from head to toe,” the ad ends.
What started the whole controversy was the beginning of the text, when Fernanda says that she doesn’t want people to start the year “on the right foot.” For critics, the campaign showed the brand’s political stance against the right. MPs, advisors and former ministers in the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) have spoken out saying they will start using other brands of sandals.
Influencers also posted videos criticizing the brand, saying the company had mixed “sandals and ideology.” Havaianas had not yet commented on the controversy surrounding the ad until the publication of this report.
