FIFA placed Botafogo on the “transfer ban” list on Tuesday evening, due to SAF’s debt for the purchase of Thiago Almada, from Atlanta United-USA, in 2024. As a result, the black and white team are prohibited from registering new players for the next three transfer windows.

The Rio club was ordered by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to pay $21 million (around 114 million reais) to the United States team due to the Argentine striker’s debt.
At the time of the negotiation, the black and white agreed to pay the amount in ten installments: two of 3 million US dollars (16.4 million reais); seven for 2 million US dollars ($10.9 million) and one for 1 million US dollars (5.4 million reais), payable every three months.
If the schedule was strictly respected, the SAF of the Rio club would finish paying this sum in September of this year. However, to date, only two installments have been paid.
