FIFA president defends World Cup ticket prices, cites strong demand

Infantino spoke at the World Sports Summit in the United Arab Emirates and stressed that revenue generated from next year’s tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico will be used for crucial investments in world football.

“In recent days you have probably seen that there is a lot of debate about tickets and their prices. We have six or seven million tickets on sale and we started two weeks ago. I can say that in just two weeks, in 15 days, we have received 150 million requests for tickets. This demonstrates the power of the World Cup,” he said with pride.

Infantino said the majority of orders came from the United States, followed by Germany and the United Kingdom.

“It’s totally crazy,” he continued. “And what is important and crucial is that the revenue generated from this is reinvested in sport around the world. FIFA is the only organization in the world that funds football at a global level. Without FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries. There is football because, thanks to the revenue we generate from the World Cup, we can reinvest it around the world,” he insisted.
