Filipe Martins’ defense claims that Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid wrote a document that predicted a coup and that, in an attempt to divert attention from himself from the investigation, he named Bolsonaro’s former international advisor as the author of the project discovered by the Federal Police (PF).
This line will be presented this Tuesday (12/09) at STF by Jeffrey Chiquini, who represents Martins. The lawyer claims to have found a scam plan on Mauro Cid’s cell phone, among the 78 terabytes of evidence available in the files. The metadata in the unpublished file, he claims, would prove that the soldier wrote the document.
“We have exclusive and unpublished documents to present to the Court tomorrow. We managed to access Mauro Cid’s cell phone. I can tell you: Mauro Cid, contrary to what everyone imagined, he wanted a coup d’état. He created a coup d’état project and he tried to convince his commanders to carry out a coup. And all of this was on his cell phone and was omitted until today. Mauro Cid presented this project to the commanders, who did not respect his wishes,” Chiquini said.
“It’s a different project, which has been omitted until now, but we found it on Mauro Cid’s cell phone. It is a decree in which Mauro Cid wanted to install a ‘military constitutional court’ in Brazil. And no one followed his wishes. Mauro Cid created a false narrative to protect himself. Mauro Cid created Filipe Martins because he knew his project could be discovered and he needed to find someone to defend themselves,” the lawyer said.
Judgment at the STF
This new project is different from the one already identified by the PF and which placed Filipe Martins in the dock. In this regard, Martins’ defense denies that the former advisor is the author and affirms that the project was photographed by the Cid on November 28, during the lieutenant-colonel’s meeting with other members of the army.
In his statement, El Cid attributes responsibility to Martins, who was arrested preventively and is currently awaiting trial with an electronic monitor on his ankle.
Chiquini calls the coup plot tried by the STF a “farce” and says his client is eager to go to court. “Filipe Martins dreamed of this trial. He cut his hair, shaved. He was very upset when groups 3 and 4 passed before group 2, because we have so much evidence of his innocence that we were looking forward to this day. Filipe is convinced that he will be acquitted.”
