The deputy Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ) occupied the chair of the President of the House, Hugo Motta, and was forcibly removed by agents of the legislative police during this Tuesday’s session. The movement occurred on the eve of the analysis, in plenary, of the process of dismissal of the psoloist, which could take place from this Wednesday. He was accused by the Novo party of having breached parliamentary decorum after having kicked an MBL (Movimento Brasil Livre) activist, in April 2024, in the middle of an argument.
The 43-year-old parliamentarian is from Nova Friburgo in Rio de Janeiro. He has been a federal deputy since 2007, mainly in the PSB.
The Ethics Council of the Chamber of Deputies approved an opinion in April on the loss of the deputy’s mandate. Glauber argues that the revocation constitutes a disproportionate sanction and that the process constitutes political persecution.
In April this year, Glauber slept on the floor of a plenary session of the House committee after promising a hunger strike. He also declared that he would not leave the space of the National Congress until the end of his process, which could lead to his impeachment.

The same month, the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) of the Chamber of Deputies decided to maintain the impeachment procedure against the deputy.
Glauber had filed an appeal with the CCJ to try to stop the process. He alleged “the absence of just cause” and the “disproportionate or unreasonable nature of the sanction of revocation of the mandate”.
The deputy also justified that the rapporteur of the collegiate trial, Paulo Magalhães (PSD-BA), was biased. The MP’s defense recalled the close relations between the rapporteur and the former President of the Chamber Arthur Lira (PP-AL) and spoke of political persecution.
Glauber accuses rapporteur Paulo Magalhães of acting in favor of Arthur Lira. Last year, the MP called Lira a “criminal” during a session at the Ethics Council. The process was sent to the collegiate for analysis, but was archived. For Glauber, Lira is using the current case of assault against the MBL activist to achieve an earlier goal of impeaching the PSOL MP for taking the oath.
