The Minas Gerais Civil Police are investigating the death of Henay Rosa Gonçalves Amorim, 31, as possible feminicide, after the episode initially recorded as a road accident on the MG-050 highway, in Itaúna, in the Central-West region of the state. The victim, from Divinópolis, where he was buried, is believed to have died after the car he was in collided head-on with a minibus.
- Crime: Three employees of an Internet company are shot dead in Salvador and found with their hands and feet tied
- In the Federal District: In two weeks, 247 people are arrested by the Civil Police in operation
The main suspect is Henay’s associate, businessman Alison de Araújo Mesquita, 43. The investigation took on new contours after the analysis of the images of the toll and the inconsistencies highlighted by forensic medicine, which led to the emergence of the hypothesis that the victim was already unconscious before the collision.
Who was the woman killed in MG-050?
Henay Rosa Gonçalves Amorim was 31 years old, a personal shopper and had been in a relationship with Alison for about a year, according to information from TV Integração. According to a friend of the victim, who preferred to remain anonymous, the two men had lived together for around seven months, in an apartment in the Nova Switzerland district, in Belo Horizonte.
According to this friend, Henay had already been the victim of previous attacks committed by her partner, which would indicate a history of domestic violence. The report includes messages, photographs and medical records that the investigation says reinforce suspicions of recurring attacks.
— She has known him for about a year and they have lived together for about seven months. During this time, he had already attacked her, hit her, injured her head, to the point that she had to go to the hospital. She already sent me a photo of his injury, a video of him breaking objects, prints — the friend said in a report on TV Integração.
Initially, Military Highway Police reported that Henay was in the driver’s seat and Alison was in the passenger seat when the vehicle took a wrong turn and collided head-on with a minibus. The death was pronounced on the spot.
The investigation changed direction after civil police analyzed footage from a toll booth, recorded minutes before the accident, which showed Henay motionless in the driver’s seat while Alison paid the fare and reached for the steering wheel, steering the car impromptu.
Furthermore, experts identified contradictions between the victim’s bodily injuries and the dynamics of the impact, raising the possibility that Henay was already unconscious before the collision. As a result, new tests were requested and the case was treated as a possible femicide.
Discussion in the apartment
In her evidence, Alison said there had been an argument between the couple in the apartment the day before the trip and he attacked Henay in self-defense.
— He said that in the apartment in Belo Horizonte there was an argument after a party they were both at and that, to protect himself, he hit her in the nose. At that time, according to him, there was bleeding from the nostrils, with splashes on the floor of the living room — delegate João Marcos do Amaral Ferreira, responsible for the investigation, told TV Integração.
Forensic scientists found traces of human blood in the living room of the apartment, near the front door and the sofa.
— The first examination confirmed that the traces found were human blood. Now we are waiting for additional tests to confirm whether this blood actually came from the victim, the delegate said.
The investigation is still trying to clarify the conditions in which Henay left the apartment.
— It has not yet been possible to confirm, through the images, whether she left the apartment conscious, alive or dead. The analysis is still ongoing, as are other field investigations and expert reports, he said.
After confessing to the crime, Alison reported that there had been further fights, attacks and chokings during the trip. The civil police began working with the hypothesis that the accident had been faked to hide the femicide.
— He tried to forge a hypothesis so that his death could be hidden, the femicide could be hidden. Form the hypothesis of an accident which could have been intentional, or even resulted in a loss. Sometimes he didn’t want to take this direction, he wanted another way, but because of the position in which he was driving, we can see him arriving at the toll already in a zigzag and in such a position he cannot have full control of the car — the police officer explained at a press conference.
Based on all the evidence, the civil police ratified Alison’s arrest for femicide. He was arrested in the wake of Henay, in Divinópolis. The couple’s mobile phones have been seized and police are awaiting the finalization of the autopsy report and interviews to conclude the investigation.
