The future Madrid South-West Highway of the Community of Madrid has taken the first step towards becoming a reality. The regional government chaired by Isabel Díaz Ayuso began procedures this Wednesday for the construction of this infrastructure which will improve the mobility of … 100,000 inhabitants of this area of the region. Concretely, the new road will be more than 41 kilometers long and will connect the M-503 and M-407 roads.
The Government Council authorized the first contracts linked to the project, which total an investment of 4.2 million euros, according to the regional spokesperson, Miguel Ángel García. Thus, the Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure will launch a call for tenders for the drafting of the technical feasibility study, the environmental impact analysis, the economic-financial study and the preliminary project for the construction and operation of this infrastructure. All this work will have a completion time of 15 months, so it will be channeled before the next regional elections.
The Autonomous Executive of Madrid will thus move forward over the next year in strengthening the more than 2,500 kilometers of regional roads thanks to this new highway, which will have a direct impact on the mobility and security of nine municipalities: Valdemorillo, Villanueva de la Cañada, Brunete, Sevilla La Nueva, Navalcarnero, El Álamo, Batres, Serranillos del Valle and Griñón.
This is a corridor that will connect these villages and improve their connection with two important axes of the network, such as the A-6 and the A-4, from other busy arteries such as the M-503, the M-501, the A-5 and the M-407.
This project is part of the region’s general finance law for 2026, which will be debated and definitively voted on next week in the Plenary Assembly of the Assembly. The absolute majority of the PP guarantees that it will move forward. The new road will optimize travel between cities, reduce travel times and increase safety, and aims to promote cohesion and economic growth in the region. It is estimated that the road will record an average daily intensity of between 10,000 and 17,000 vehicles, depending on the sections.
This southwest highway is part of the plan to modernize and strengthen the road network of the Community of Madrid, to which 234.5 million euros will be allocated next year.
