The US Army announced on Thursday (December 18, 2025) the deaths of five suspected “narcoterrorists” in two attacks on ships in Pacific waters. This brings the number of victims in the region to at least 104 since Washington’s anti-drug campaign began.
“Intelligence confirmed that the ships transited known drug trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and were involved in drug trafficking operations. A total of five drug terrorists died in these actions,” Southern Command said in its X report.
Three people died in the first attack and the other two in the second boat, the army said.
According to an AFP tally of official information, the death toll from US bombings in the Pacific and Caribbean from this new attack exceeds one hundred.
President Donald Trump’s administration has provided no evidence that the ships are involved in drug trafficking, sparking intense debate over the legal framework of the operations.
Members of the Democratic opposition, as well as the Republican majority in Congress, believe that the president does not have the legal authority to carry out these attacks.
However, the House of Representatives on Wednesday rejected two texts aimed at legislating these operations. Similar measures also failed in the Senate.
The campaign comes as the US government increases pressure on the government of Nicolás Maduro, whom it accuses of running a drug trafficking network.
