A total of 68 soldiers took part in the operation. The agency did not release the names of those arrested or the date the encounter under investigation took place.
According to the MPES, the investigations concern the alleged participation of police officers and civilians in the crime of procedural fraud, in the context of a homicide which would have been presented as the result of a “police confrontation”.
Authorities suspect the alleged confrontation was faked to alter the real dynamics of events. Investigations remain confidential.
The operation was supported by the Intelligence Center of the MPES Military Council, the Internal Affairs of the Military Police and the Special Missions Battalion (BME) of the Espírito Santo Military Police.
Suspects will be sent to military prison
In a statement, the Association of Police and Fire Corporals of Espírito Santo (Aspra-ES) indicated that the soldiers were sent to Vitória, where they will undergo a forensic examination. The group will then be sent to the military prison.
The entity added that it has been following the case from the beginning and providing legal and social support to the associated police officers and their family members.
PMES said investigations remain confidential so as not to compromise the progress of the process.
