At least 11 people, five of them from La Plata, were taken into care today due to the high temperatures and a series of incidents at the Gran Rivadavia Theater in the Floresta district of Buenos Aires, most of them minors, which were due to a possible oversale of tickets for a private event.
The five young people from La Plata who needed urgent treatment belong to the competitive dance studio Alquimia Dance, 66 between 165 and 166 (Los Hornos). However, the collapse scuppered the plans and caused moments of great tension.
The boys’ families said that “they cried a lot” and that “the organizers created chaos.” “Fortunately, it was not a tragedy,” they added, noting that at least two minors had to be hospitalized but were released shortly afterwards and are with their relatives.
It was discovered that a significant number of people were unable to enter the ski jump at 8600 Rivadavia Avenue due to possible oversold tickets, causing anger and shouting.
Police and SAME personnel responded at 2:30 p.m. after a 911 call reporting the location was at capacity and several people, including minors, were unbalanced. A private event was held at the facility where minors from various dance schools were scheduled to perform.
Due to overcrowding and high temperatures, several people suffered heat stroke and the event was canceled. Four SAME ambulances and one private ambulance attended.
A total of 11 people were treated on site. Due to the incident, the city administration will close the facility through the government agency for city control that arrived at the theater.
