In an official note, a group of Flamengo supporters and advisors, called Bancada Feminina, criticized the position adopted by the club’s president, Luiz Eduardo Baptista, BAP, who made this derogatory comment to journalist Renata Mendonça.
A video of the professional went viral on social media in mid-2025, criticizing Flamengo’s lack of investment in women’s football. Bap recalled this subject during the meeting of the Flamengo Deliberative Council, this Tuesday (23/12), and described Renata as “a big nose from Globo”.
Although it agrees that the channel should increase the broadcasting rights of women’s football, the Chamber affirms that the criticisms cannot under any circumstances be accompanied by an attack against a journalist, in such a virulent and inelegant manner.
What did Bap say?
“There is the big nose of Globo who keeps talking bad about us and everything else, about football, which does not encourage (women’s football). This makes you want to say: ‘my daughter, convince your company to invest R$10 million per year, R$20 million per year in broadcasting rights and then things will get better,’ said Bap, during a meeting with the partners this Tuesday (23/12).

“The Women’s Caucus publicly expresses its rejection of the derogatory comments made during yesterday’s meeting at the Gávea headquarters, demeaning women in their work environment and in their speech.
We agree that the aforementioned broadcaster should value and increase the rights to broadcast women’s football for Flamengo.
But this fair criticism cannot under any circumstances be accompanied by an attack against a journalist, in such a virulent and inelegant manner.
We reiterate our fight for women in sports. Athletes, advisors, partners, employees, supporters, referees, journalists must not only be respected, whatever their position, but also welcomed, and praised so that we have more and more women involved in a world so masculine and impervious to change that is the world of Football.
All our solidarity with Renata Mendonça”
