Flamengo is working on the possibility of recruiting three key players for the 2026 season: a goalkeeper, a defender and a renowned attacker, according to information from ESPN. President Luiz Eduardo Baptista (Bap), in an interview with Flamengo TV, made it clear that the investment could be even greater:

“If I have to spend R$1 billion to continue earning everything, I can spend it. The decision to spend only has consequences: there must be money to pay for it. In the two-year planning horizon, I could spend R$1 billion next year. Should I do it? That’s where the evaluation comes in. Let’s take one day at a time,” he said.

In addition to reinforcements, the board of directors has made it a priority to reduce the average age of the workforce. Bap explained that the process requires a long-term vision:

– Players recruited today and aged 26 will be older in two or three years.

– The analysis must take into account four-season contracts and the future impact on the formation of the group.

– The director compared planning to a “chess game” which cannot be designed only for a short cycle.

Contract status and renewals

The club also works to maintain fundamental pieces. These are goalkeeper Agustín Rossi (prominent winner of the Libertadores, who has a contract until December 2027, but is negotiating a salary increase), midfielder Arrascaeta (who has already extended his contract until 2028, with the possibility of extension until 2029) and coach Filipe Luís (under renewal, with conversations carried out directly by Bap with agent Jorge Mendes).

Football director José Boto participates in the negotiations, but only communicates the figures defined by the presidency. Behind the scenes, there is optimism about a deal with Filipe Luís, although it is expected that negotiations will only progress after the end of the Brasileirão.

Next steps

With the national title assured and the Intercontinental Cup in prospect, Flamengo is already projecting 2026 as a year of renewal and heavy investment, balancing impact signings with the team’s rejuvenation strategy.
