Flamengo and Paris Saint-Germain meet this Wednesday (17/12), at 2 p.m. (Brasilia time), at the Ahmad bin Ali stadium, in Qatar, for the final of the Intercontinental Cup. This is the fourth clash between the clubs and opens a new chapter in a story so far limited to friendly matches.
Even if they have never faced each other in official competition, Flamengo and PSG have a balanced record. In three matches played in recent decades, each team has recorded a victory, in addition to a draw, with a tie also in the number of goals scored: four for each team.

PSG announces details of match against Flamengo at Intercontinental
The first duel took place in 1975, in Paris, when Flamengo won 2 x 0, thanks to two goals from Luisinho Lemos. The match featured historic names from the Rio club and marked the start of the sporting relationship between the teams.
Four years later, in 1979, it was PSG’s turn to win. Playing again at Parque dos Príncipes, the French won 3 x 1. Zico scored the red-black goal in the match.

The most recent meeting took place in 1991, during the Paris Tournament. Flamengo and PSG drew 1-1 in regulation time, with a goal from Zinho, and the Brazilian team finished as champions by winning the penalty shootout.
This Wednesday’s final, however, has an unprecedented weight. Libertadores champions, Flamengo make the decision after eliminating Cruz Azul and Pyramids in the previous stages of the tournament. PSG, winner of the Champions League, enters directly into the final as European representative.
In addition to the Intercontinental Cup title, the duel puts at stake the chance of a South American club to win a world trophy again after more than a decade.
