Flavio Bolsonaro confirms his pre-candidacy for the presidency in 2026

Senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, said that he was chosen by his father to be the Liberal Party’s candidate for president in 2026.

The induction could have occurred during a visit by Flavio to the former president, who is imprisoned under federal police surveillance in Brasilia and cannot run in the elections due to convictions by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE).

“It is with great responsibility that I confirm the decision of Brazil’s greatest political and moral leader, Jair Messias Bolsonaro, to entrust me with the task of continuing our nation’s project,” the politician wrote on social networks.

He added, “I believe in a God who does not abandon our nation. I believe that He lifts people up and begins new times when people cry out for justice. I believe that there is no greater captive than the power of God to set them free. I put myself before God and before Brazil to accomplish this mission. I know that He will move forward, open doors, tear down walls and guide every step of this journey.”

The National President of the Liberal Party, Waldemar Costa Neto, posted on the X social network that Bolsonaro nominated his son for next year’s elections.

“As President of the Liberal Party, I inform you that Senator Flavio Bolsonaro is the name indicated by Jair Bolsonaro to represent the party in the presidential conflict. Flavio told me that our leader has confirmed his pre-candidacy. So, if Bolsonaro speaks, he will be spoken.”

The decision, made shortly after a dispute between former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro and the former president’s children, complicated the candidacy of São Paulo Governor Tarcisio de Freitas for the position of planalto. The carioca was one of the favorites to represent the ward at the polls. .
