During the meeting between the leaders of the União-PP Federation party and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), Monday evening (8), the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro presented his candidacy project to try to consolidate the support of the centrão. The announcement of the candidacy had not been announced before and the conversation was aimed at presenting it to the parties.
The presidents of União Brasil, Antonio Rueda, and of the Progressive Party, Ciro Nogueira, and of the Liberal Party, Valdemar da Costa Neto, participated in the meeting at Flávio Bolsonaro’s house. The leader of the PL in the Senate, Rogério Marinho (RN), was also present.
To reporters, Marinho said the definition was not communicated in advance to allied parties due to the “circumstances” of Bolsonaro – who is in prison. “Today it was time to talk about how this definition came to be,” he said.
“There is a convergence, which is the need to remove the PT from power. Thus, all the parties mentioned, to a greater or lesser extent, have announced the need or the desire or the will to be, next year, on platforms opposed (to that of Lula),” said the senator.
The leader of the Republicans – party of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas, expected to be a candidate against Lula in 2026 – Marcos Pereira, was also invited to the meeting, but did not participate and cited points on the agenda. Another absence was that of the leader of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, who announced the possible candidacy of Ratinho Jr for the presidency.
“In this conversation, our will, our conviction, the fact that the candidacy of Senator Flávio is a real candidacy has become clear. It is clear that there is a responsibility of both the president of the PP and the president of União Brasil so that they can speak to their seats, to governors and to political actors spread throughout the country, so that in the end they can bring us a position of their respective parties. This will not happen today nor tomorrow. The conversation will only be mature, it will be absorbed by everyone, and we will have time for that there is this definition”, underlined Marinho.
The senator also downplayed the negative reaction of the financial market to the name of Flávio Bolsonaro and said that the fluctuation was simply due to “speculation” around a possible unconfirmed candidacy, in reference to Tarcísio de Freitas.
Marinho also said that “loyalty” and “gratitude” are not prescribed – which is why allies, like the governor of São Paulo, tend to align with Flávio Bolsonaro.
He denies having rejected the candidacy of Flávio Bolsonaro and affirms that the program is still being developed, but he predicts that the platform defended by the group will be “the opposite of what exists”, in reference to the Lula government.
