Ally of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), federal deputy Bia Kicis (PL-SP) claims that the launch of the name of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) as her father’s candidate in the 2026 presidential election fueled Bolsonaro’s activism and changed the electoral council.
The pre-candidate for the Senate of the DF recognizes that at the beginning, Flávio’s nomination surprised everyone in the PL. “We were hoping that President Bolsonaro’s announcement would take place in February-March,” he says.
“But it’s very good that this is happening now, because he was despised. Since his arrest, I haven’t seen any movement from the parties that say they support him to improve his situation or even promote the amnesty, which everyone knows was so important to him, the release of political prisoners,” he says.
For Bia Kicis, the entry of Flávio was a game-changer. “It was a huge surprise for the centrist parties, who were already almost certain that it would be (São Paulo governor) Tarcísio (de Freitas) and possibly (former first lady) Michelle (Bolsonaro) as vice president,” he continues. “But Flávio arrived. He topped the polls,” he says.
The deputy notes a commitment of supporters around the senator’s pre-candidacy. “People are disgusted with what is being done to President Bolsonaro, to General (Augusto) Heleno, to Braga Netto, to Anderson Torres, (Alexandre) Ramagem, to so many people,” he says. “So that was a response and it really affected the activism. It gave it momentum. Even for the party, it will be very good to have 22 at the top of the list.”
Bia Kicis believes that Flávio’s pre-candidacy should continue to develop and be viable. “Now we know we can’t lose the election. So of course the party itself, everyone will be watching them to see what happens,” he continues. “But I bet that it will go to the end, that Flávio will be in the second round and that from the outset we will see who will have the courage to unite with Lula, the one who is destroying Brazil.”
