An American tourist, whose name has not been released, was filmed by security cameras brutally attacking his girlfriend in the elevator of a building in Botafogo (RJ). Footage of the attack, which shows the victim being punched with more than 15 punches, was released on Tuesday (12/9).

The episode took place on October 26. The victim was initially rescued by a doctor who heard the fight. She was taken to a local hospital and required more than 20 stitches to close the wounds. The victim’s face was disfigured.

According to the civil police, the couple had rented an apartment for the season and, according to witnesses, arguments were frequent.
After the attack, the tourist was arrested and taken to the special tourism support police station (Deat), where he was charged with assault and battery in the context of domestic violence. He was released, but the case is still pending before the courts in Rio de Janeiro.
