Former President of Ecuador Lenín Moreno must appear before the National Court of Justice answer for a corruption offense concerning a corruption network, in which a Chinese company is involved, in the midst of the construction of the largest hydroelectric power station … great of the country.
Judge Olavo Hernández summoned the former president to trial as direct author of the offense of corruption in relation to the alleged payment of bribes by 65 million euros during the concession and construction of the Coca Codo Sinclair hydroelectric plant by the Chinese company Sinohydro when he was vice-president of Rafael Correa.
There is no date yet for the appearance of the former Ecuadorian president.
Moreno’s summons represents one of the highlights of the investigation presented by the State Attorney General’s Office in March 2023, in which Moreno, members of his family and friends, as well as a total of 24 people are linked to this network of corruption around the factory, which started its activities in 2016 after work estimated at around 1.7 billion euros.
