The athlete was approached by the Rio club, but indicated that he has no plans to return to Brazilian football at the moment.
Fluminense tried to repatriate Fabinho, the midfielder from Al-Ittihad and revealed in the youth categories of Xerém, but heard a negative response from the player. The information was disclosed by Globo Esporte.
The first contact was made about two weeks ago, on a consultative basis, to understand the athlete’s situation on the market and the possibility of a return to Brazil, a scenario that did not come to fruition due to the player’s lack of interest.
At 32, Fabinho has made it clear that at this stage of his career he has no desire to return to Brazilian football. Apart from the personal decision, the high salaries received in Saudi football are considered a significant obstacle to any negotiations in the national market.
Created by Fluminense, the midfielder left the club very early and built a solid trajectory in Europe. After distinguishing himself in Monaco, France, he reached the pinnacle of his career at Liverpool, where he was an important player in historic campaigns, winning Premier League and Champions League titles. In 2023, he transferred to Al-Ittihad, from Saudi Arabia, a club with which he still has a current contract.
According to Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, besides Fluminense, other Brazilian clubs have recently investigated the player’s situation. The Corinthians and Bahia even established contact, just as Vasco and Palmeiras were mentioned in speculation.
However, all conversations ran into the same scenario: Fabinho’s lack of interest in returning to the country at that time and the high values involved in a possible negotiation.
In this context, Fluminense remains on the market looking for alternatives to strengthen the midfield, already aware that the return of the midfielder trained in Xerém is not likely to happen anytime soon.
