The former Ceará striker reacted violently to a foul and was subjected to numerous beatings.
An end-of-year friendly match ended in confusion this Tuesday afternoon (23/12) at the Raimundo da Cunha Rola municipal stadium, in Eusébio, Ceará. Former striker Ari, who played for Fortaleza and Atlético-CE, was involved in a brawl during an amateur tournament match between Liverpool and Mangabeira FC. Therefore, the referee stopped the match and decided to end the confrontation early.
The dispute showed some balance when, in the 17th minute of the final stage, Ari, in the Liverpool attack, ran quickly down the right side after receiving a pass. The fight began when he was knocked down hard by a Mangabeira defender. So, Ari reacted by hitting his rival in the head. Then the scene quickly degenerated into a riot involving athletes from both teams.
This confusion started when Liverpool won the match 1-0, with a penalty in the first half. However, because the judge chose to end the clash early, no winner was declared. In fact, the referee’s decision had the support of the competition organizers.
The Miart company, organizers of the event, issued a public statement rejecting the attacks and stating that it did not tolerate unsporting attitudes. Furthermore, the entity highlighted the importance of respect, discipline and fair play even in informal tournaments.
