
The Civil Guard Former PSOE activist Leire Díez was arrested this Wednesday in Madrid for alleged irregularities in public procurement by the Société Nationale de Participations Industrielles (SEPI), according to sources close to the investigation. The arrests took place as part of an ongoing operation on the orders of the National Court, as part of a case subject to summary secrecy and in which the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office also participates.
Díez is also under investigation in Madrid’s Court of Instruction number 9 for corruption and influence peddling due to alleged maneuvers against the public prosecutor’s office or senior officers of the Civil Guard with whom, according to the judge, she intended to derail the judicial investigation. Judge Arturo Zamarriego took Díez’s statement on November 11 to offering favors in exchange for information against members of the Armed Institute and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
